The next Usain Bolt?
I’ve been going to Physio everyday now and I’m really happy with my improvement. I’m now able to go on the treadmill for 15 minutes, use the bicycle for 15 minutes and then work on the leg press machine for 15 minutes all in the same session. I wouldn’t think that I’d be able to do this much so quickly. To most of you it probably sounds like nothing but for a guy who could barely walk before the operation, this is a pretty great achievement. The physio’s have told me that so far I’ve probably had the best recovery in physical terms compared to the other LVAD patients. I’m trying to push myself everyday and am trying to increase the speed on the treadmill and trying to gain more distance on the bicycle. I’ve learnt that my gym mindset has to change. Before it was about pushing myself to my limit and that can’t be the case anymore. I’ve got to stay safe but also workout well and therefore I cannot overly exhaust myself.
Many of you may have heard about The 24 Hour Race. The 24 Hour Race is a race to raise awareness of slavery. It is completely organised by students and last year I was lucky enough to be the Team Leader for my school. I’ve now set my aim to become physically fit enough to be able to take part in next years 24 hour race event and continue to raise awareness for this problem.
Wish me luck in my recovery and hopefully I’ll be able to take part in the event again next year!
